AIOU, Chinese University to promote solar technology

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University and China’s Zhongli SCI-TECH University have decided to work together for promoting solar technology, through lab and community-based projects.

A MoU to this effect will be signed soon, said Dr. Paul Nie and Dr. Welfei Lian, senior academicians from the SCI-TECH University while speaking at a lecture-series seminar arranged here by the department of Physics. The AIOU will involve its students for the development of solar cells and solar panels indigenously with the technology support of the Chinese University.

Chinese side will be prepared for the transfer of technology and proving of other technical support for producing solar cells. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the AIOU as a public sector wished to play its effective role in the socio-economic development of the country, through such academic programs.

The role of the University, he said is highly important in overcoming community-related issues, like energy shortage through research work. We are actively engaged in establishing strong linkage between the University and industries for this purpose, he added.

The AIOU will continue to invite foreign academicians and scholars to share their knowledge and experience particularly in the field of science and technology. Dr. Zafar Ilyas, chairman of the Physics department said that they are looking forward to strength their collaboration with the Chinese Universities for carrying out the research work.
