After locusts, unusually large-sized bats attack, destroy mango, lychee orchids

MULTAN: After locust attacks in the country, unusually large-sized bats have attacked and destroyed orchids of mangoes and lychee in Multan.

According to farmers, the unusual bats are four-to-five feet long. They added that these birds have destroyed mango and lychee farms.

The farmers had informed the agriculture department about the unusual bats and their attacks on the farms.

The attacks have caused a huge loss to the farmers in the region.

Pakistan has already been facing locust attacks.

A top agriculturist had said that 38 per cent of the agricultural land had become breeding ground for locusts.

Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Chairman Dr Muhammad Azeem Khan has said that a project would be initiated to catch the locusts alive, which will be used as poultary feed. He added that the project will cost Rs500 million.
