KABUL: The supreme leader of Afghan Taliban Mullah Omar is dead and the incident happened around 2 to 3 years ago, Afghan officials told the country’s president Ashraf Ghani.
Afghan government and intelligence sources said that the reclusive leader died two to three years ago, a report in a reputable British Media Group said on Wednesday.
It has been said that Afghan Taliban would issue a statement regarding his death shortly.
There have been several reports of Mullah Omar’s death in the past.
The US state department had a $10m bounty on Mullah Omar, who has not been seen since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
It was Mullah Omar’s backing for al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden that sparked the campaign.
