WASHINGTON: The United States’ Washington Navy Yard is lockdown as an active gunmen reportedly fired shots in the Yard.
Washington DC’s Metropolitan Police Department told CNN they were responding to the facility but there is no further information regarding the exact nature of the incident.
The U.S. Navy says the facility is under a shelter-in-place order. Police were called for a report with a man with a gun in the facility.
A large number of police vehicles have also gathered at the scene. The gates to the yard are shut and no one is being allowed to enter.
Navy spokesman Petty Officer 1st Class Pedro Rodridguez also confirmed that shots have been reported in a building on the campus, however, he did not give any details of injuries or other information.
In September 2013, gunman Aaron Alexis killed 12 people after he went on a shooting rampage with a stolen pistol at building 197 in the Navy Yard.
