ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday decided that the Tayyaba will stay at Pakistan Sweet Homes, an orphanage, till her parents are determined.
Police on Wednesday took 10-year-old Tayyaba to the Supreme Court. The little girl had changed into a clean pair of clothes, a red hairband holding her hair back, a stark contrast from the rags she wore when she was first recovered. The wounds on her eye and lip had visibly healed, but a white bandage tightly wrapped her hand.
During the hearing of suo moto case, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar asked Tayyaba‘s father Azam: “Did you forgive the judge and his family?” over which he said that he had signed a paper with thumb impression on the instructions of lawyer without knowing that it was a pardon affidavit. He told the court that Nadra bibi took the girl to Faisalabad for work.
CJP ordered the investigation officers to submit record of case along with suspect Maheen Zafar’s pre-arrest bail copy and directed the police to present the final report in ten days.
Earlier a man named Azam arrived at the Supreme Court claiming to be Tayyaba’s father. He told the CJ that he had three children of which Tayyaba was his eldest.
Druing the proceedings, the CJ asked Azam when had he sent Tayyaba away for work.
Azam explained in August 2016, his neighbour took Tayyaba away to look for work. She told him that Tayyaba’s work involved only babysitting and playing with children. He recognized his child after news channels flashed her injured and bruised pictures.
Meanwhile, three women who had come to Islamabad claiming Tayyaba their daughter have withdrawn their claim saying that they have lost their girls but Tayyaba was not theirs.
