The Huffington Post news website published an article regarding media freedom in Turkey but deleted it two hours after it was published.
The website’s columnist Emir Eksioglu accused former Editor-in-Chief of Cumhuriyet daily, Can Dundar, for whom a Turkish court issued a detention warrant earlier this week for aiding the Gulenist Terror Group (FETO), of working for circles which try to harm Turkey, to receive the “Press Freedom” award from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
“Although this committee shouldn’t even be taken seriously when Turkey is the subject. And apparently, he made a speech in the hypocritical European Parliament depicting Turkey as hell. Turkey has nothing to do with hell but you really are the devil Can Dundar!” Eksioglu wrote.
Eksioglu said he was trying to do his part on his column on Huffington Post to show the real face of Dundar however his take on media freedom in Turkey was quickly censored on a platform that most have been conditioned to recognize as a free media outlet.
Huffington Post did not respond to a request for comment about the removal of the article.
The writer said Dundar’s work should not be deemed as journalism but treason, as he was creating chaos in his own country for his personal interests.
“Dundar is nothing but a puppet whose goal is to demonize and punish Turkey in the international scene by spewing lies. There is a rightful warrant for Dundar’s arrest and since he was cooperating with the Gulenists who were behind the attempted coup of July 15 which was foiled by the people, Germany should extradite him to Turkey as soon as possible.”
“He is also a disgrace because he has turned the newspaper Cumhuriyet, which was named by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who founded the Republic of Turkey, into the media organ of the PKK and FETO.” Eksioglu said.
The author also entered the list of people who recently started to express their wish to punch people, a move that has become trendy after Robert De Niro’s comments on his desire to punch US President-elect Donald Trump in the face in a video that can be found on any news website, including Huffington Post itself.
