Senior PPP leader Jahangir Badar dies at 72

LAHORE: PPP senior leader and party’s former secretary general Jahanghir Badar died here late Sunday night. He was 72

The PPP leader was shifted taken to a private hospital after his condition deteriorated. He was suffering from kidney and cardiac problems.

Badar was considered one of the closest aides of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

He joined politics as a student leader in Lahore’s Punjab University. As a young man, he also met Pakistan Peoples Party’s Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and was among the first group of students to join and support the PPP leader.

Badar was arrested during the governments of Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan and was detained a number of times by the Zia-ul-Haq and Musharraf regimes.

His funeral prayer will be held today at the Punjab University at 4:00pm.
