KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that reconstruction of University Road in Karachi has become a test case to establish the seriousness of the provincial government as well as local government in Karachi.
He expressed these views on Tuesday while talking to a delegations of party workers led by JI district East President Younus Barai at his office in JI Karachi headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that both the provincial government of Sindh and the local government of Karachi have been making towering claims to serve the city. He added that JI present the case of University Road before them as a test case.
The JI leader said that it should be a matter of shame and concern for the government’s highups that they failed to reconstruct a road of only 13 kilometers.

“Not only one million people, dwell in adjoining areas, would take a sigh of relief but tens of thousands of students of universities located on the road would feel at ease, if the road is reconstructed,” he said.
He demanded of the government to reconstruct the road on war footing basis so as commuters in general and university going student in particular would be facilitated.
He was of the view that the Chief Minister needs to show some seriousness in this regard. He lambasted the rulers and said that the tax payers money is supposed to spend on provision of facilities, instead the ruling elite seems believing that people pay tax just to facilitate their class.
The JI leader said that if a government cannot provide basis facilities then what left behind to govern.
On the occasion, Younus Barai said that only a patch of three kilometers was constructed during last thirteen long years. During the tenure of Nematullah Khan, a feasibility report for the reconstruction of the road was approved. According to the report estimated cost of this road was eight million rupees, however the negligence of later governments the estimated coast has reached at Rs 2 billion.
