Islamabad police gear up security for PTI gathering; cops performance hailed

ISLAMABAD: The efforts of law enforcement agencies and Islamabad police in maintaining law and order have been hailed by the security bosses along with further directions to enhance security arrangements for gathering of PTI at Parade Ground.

Police sources said that no untoward incident happened during the last 3-4 days despite gathering at Bani Gala as maximum restraint was ordered. The sources said that police was kept unarmed as strict orders were made not to resort firing and peaceful handling of mob was ensured in the vicinity of Bani Gala and other areas.

Strict vigilance and patrolling was made at the entry as well as exit points of the city and successful implementation of the security plan was ensured throughout the city.

Following this security plan, weapons were also recovered from those coming to Bani Gala and FIRs were also registered at Bani Gala and Bhara Kau police stations for violating section 144.

The sources said that Inspector General of Police Islamabad Tariq Masood Yasin has appreciated the efforts of SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani for making effective arrangements and also thanked other law enforcement agencies and relevant stake holders in successful implementation of the security plan.

About security on gathering of PTI on November 2 as announced by party’s leadership, the sources said that 15,000 to 25,000 law enforcers would ensure order in the federal capital on November 2. The additional force comprising personnel from the Frontier Constabulary (FC), Punjab police, Azad Jammu and Kashmir police and some other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) would perform security duties.

The sources said that close liaison will be maintained among various officials to be assigned security duties. However, cooperation of organizers with the police and law enforcing officials would be critical for maintaining peace and tranquility on the occasion, the sources maintained.
