OGRA hands over Rs7m compensation amount to LPG bowzer victims

NANKANA: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) in presence of chairman National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Petroleum, Bilal Virk on Friday handed over compensation amount of seven million rupees to the victims of LPG bowzer accident.

A cheques’ distribution ceremony was held on the spot of the accident (Kotwar, Nankana-Sheikhupura Road) under kind patronage of Mr. Bilal virk wherein compensation amounts were handed over to victims individually through the relevant DCOs.

Since victims belonged to the two districts Nankana and Sheikhupura, OGRA transferred aggregate amount to respective DCO for onward disbursement to the injured ones and heirs to the deceased.

OGRA was represented by Sohail Ahmed Tariq, Executive Director, Enforcement.

The OGRA spokesman Afzal Bajwa, who was also present on the occasion, told media persons that compensation amount was recovered from the company whose gas container’s fire had caused loss of precious lives.

The company Hazara Efficient Gas was fined under the law for defaulting on prescribed safety measures.

As per the decision of the OGRA, Rs 250,000 to be paid as compensation against a loss of life and Rs. 100,000 for those who got injuries in the said accident.

Therefore, the company was fined with an amount of seven million that was distributed among 22 heirs to deceased and 15 injured victims.
