LAHORE: The Corruption Free Pakistan movement of the Jamaat-e-Islami is nearing its success, and the Punjab JI’s Ijtema from tomorrow would prove to be the last nail in the coffin of corruption, JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, said here on Thursday.
Talking to the media at the Wahdat Road ground, the venue of the three-day convention, he said that the JI had begun its drive against corruption much before the Panama leaks, and the Panama leaks was a divine support to its drive. He said that other parties were also compelled to support it now whether they liked it or not.
Liaqat Baloch said the JI was praying for the success of the PTI’s sit in and added that if the government tried to obstruct the sit-in, it would be an unwise decision and would end up in the ouster of the government.
He said that JI’s move against corruption was not merely a slogan. The JI leadership and its workers had proved their honesty and integrity to the nation and none of the JI leaders was accused of corruption and loot, he added.
Liaqat Baloch said the Ijtema was being held at a time when the movement against corruption was its peak. He said the city of Lahore had always played decisive role in the success of the movements in the past. This was the time to crush the serpents of corruption so that those who had plundered billions could not get into power again.
He said that the politics of the Punjab had always been in the hands of feudal lords, vaderas and opportunists. He hoped that the Ijtema would be a means of getting rid of these elements.
Besides, he said, the IJtema would send a message to the Kashmiris that the people of Pakistan and the Punjab were with them and would support them till they got their right of self determination. He said that on the second day of the Ijtema, there would be a Burhan Muzaffar Wani Shaheed Conference at which veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Gilani and other Hurriat leaders would also address by telephone.
