TTP Swat commander among 50 arrested in search operations

KARACHI: Karachi police arrested 50 suspects including outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Swat commander in Karachi in the wee hours of Tuesday, police officials said.

According to SHO Manghopir Ghulam Hussain Koraye, police conducted a search operation in Manghopir area after receiving information about the presence of criminal elements in the area.

During the operation, TTP Swat commander Gul Nawab and four other suspects were arrested. Motorcycles and weapons were also recovered. The commander was wanted for activities linked to terrorism and for the supply of weapons.

During a door-to-door search, 47 other suspects were also detained and were shifted to police station for questioning.

Police and Rangers also conducted joint search operations in FC Area, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Kosar Niazi Colony, Firdous Colony and Katti Pahari and detained 50 suspects. However, no formal arrests were made. The operations were conducted after the cracker blast on Imam Bargah in FC Area.

Intelligence agencies also conducted a raid in Hub to arrest gang-war suspect Bilal alias Bhaiya but he managed to escape. According to sources the suspect escaped to Lyari. He is wanted for involvement in 30 murders and is allegedly a member of the Uzair Baloch group.
