CM Sindh sets Nov 1 as deadline of closing markets, marriage halls

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in order to improve day-to-day life in the city, rationalizing business hours and adopting one-dish policy in marriage functions Friday decided the closing time of marriage halls, super markets and shops as 10 pm and termed it a new beginning of modern Karachi.

He took these decisions while presiding over a meeting here, said a statement.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Industries Manzoor Wassan, Advisor to CM on Labour Saeed Ghani, Law advisor Murtaza Wahab, Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Mohammad Waseem, Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Maher, Commissioner Karachi, DIGs and deputy commissioners.

The CM Sindh said that the marriage functions in the halls, clubs and hotels start very late and continue till late night. Apart from it, there is no limit of dishes being served in marriage functions.

“My contention is very simple start your work right in time and complete it well in time”, he said.

He decided that the marriage halls would finish their marriage functions by 10 pm and only one dish would be served. One dish means rice, roti and nan with salad and sweet dish. This is an austerity programme and “I am going start it with from myself. I won’t attend those functions where more than one dishes would be served, he said.

In consultation with the participants of the meeting, the CM Sindh fixed November 1 as deadline for the close of marriage halls by 10 pm. He directed commissioner Karachi to talk to the owners of the marriage halls and convince them.

This would not affect their business but this is in the interest of every one, he said.

The CM Sindh taking another policy decision fixed 7 pm as closing time of markets, malls and shop.

‘I have no problems how early you open your markets/shops but the closing time is 7 pm,” he said and added again it would not put any adverse affect on business but it is an attempt to rationalize the business hours.

He also directed that commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ali Khan to hold meetings with malls and market associations/owners and convince them to implement the government decision. “You must involve your deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners in the negotiations with the traders, he said and hoped that every one would support him.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that when people would consider his decision with peace of mind they would find lot of benefits of starting their working day in the morning and finishing it in the evening.

This would save their personal energy, electricity, unnecessary rush on the roads and top of it “you would look fresh and fresh, he said in the lighter mood.

He also directed the Additional IG Karachi, Mushtaq Maher to support the divisional and district administration of the city in implementation of the decision.

Clarifying his decisions he said that market in the rural areas of the province are opened in the morning and closed well in time.

As far as the timing of marriage halls and one-dish policy it would be implemented across the province of Sindh with same spirit.
