ISLAMABAD: Leader of the opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan addressing a joint session of parliament on Thursday said Pakistan is isolated because it gives freedom to non-state actors.
“The government has been completely unsuccessful in imposing restrictions on non-state actors according to the National Action Plan.” He implied that such actors continue carrying out protests, rallies and giving speeches in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi.
“I don’t want instability in any country, as the blame of that will then fall on us because of these non-state actors.
Last week, after a cabinet meeting, a statement released quoted participants saying “we believe that Pakistan has no hand in the Uri attack”, Aitzaz said. “We believe this is not a categorical denial. We don’t know if our non-state actors are behind it.”
“When you cannot completely implement NAP and then something like this happens, the blame will fall on Pakistan and we will be isolated. Then Bangladesh, Afghanistan will not speak to you and Bhutan and Nepal will begin supporting India,” he said.
“You have isolated Pakistan,” he said. He held Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation. “It used to be that India was alone but now Pakistan is isolated,” Aitzaz said.
Aitzaz called on the government to fight the India Waters Treaty case and present Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir. He warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is talking about to review Indus Water Treaty but he should keep it in mind that any tempering with the treaty will be an act of war.
“We are with you,” he said, reiterating the party’s earlier stance of unity with the government on the Kashmir issue.
Ch Aitzaz Ahsan praised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif speech which he delivered in the UN General Assembly session on Kashmir issue. He also demanded from the PM to exposed India’s interference in creating instability in Pakistan and arrest of a serving officer of Indian Navy Kulbhushan Yadav. He slammed the focus on Punjab in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “The impression that CPEC is the China Punjab Economic Corridor is not acceptable to us. The $46 billion CPEC investment is not more important than national unity,” he said. —INP
