FAISALABAD: Agriculture experts have advised cotton growers to adopt certain precautionary measures till 15th of current month for getting good produce.
EDO (Agriculture) Ch Abdul Hameed, here Thursday, asked farmers to ensure that 40-50 percent cotton bolls are opened in field before picking cotton so that impurities could be separated at right stage.
“Best suitable time for picking cotton is between 10 am to 4 pm as in that time humidity and dew on opened cotton bolls have already dried up”.
EDO said that to avoid impurities such as dust and trash mixing in the cotton,the picking should be done from lower side towards top which leads to clean cotton picking.
He said that timely picking of cotton must be followed and after first picked an interval of 15-20 days is to be maintained before second picking.
He asked the growers to store picked cotton on plain cotton cloth to save it from humidity and impurities, adding, different kinds of cotton varieties should be stored separately. He also advised pest scouting twice a week in cotton field and in case of severe attack of insects it should be done after consultation with field staff of Agriculture department.—APP
