SRINAGAR: Army personnel have killed an innocent youth in cold blood in Baramulla district, Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), raising number of civilian killings in the ongoing Kashmir Intifada to 106.

According to KMS, eyewitnesses said that the soldiers fired upon the men and women who were busy in paddy fields at Nadihal in Rafiabad area of the district, last evening.

They said that a bullet hit 22-year-old Waseem Ahmed Lone and he instantly fell down. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared as brought dead.

“We, along with Waseem, were working in the paddy field. All of a sudden, forces fired from one of their three vehicles passing from the area without any provocation. A bullet hit Waseem directly,” they said.

Local hospital authorities said that a bullet had hit Waseem on his back and pierced through his heart, resulting in his death.

“The bullet had damaged his heart, causing his instant death,” Dr Masood, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Baramulla, told media men.

As the news of Waseem’s death spread in the area, thousands of people hit the streets and staged massive demonstrations against his brutal murder. They raised high-pitched anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

With the killing of Waseem Ahmed Lone, death toll in the ongoing Intifada has mounted to 106. The Intifada was triggered by the extrajudicial murder of noted freedom fighter, Burhan Muzaffar Wani on July 8 this year.

On the other hand, over 100 people were injured, yesterday, due to the use of brute force on peaceful protesters by Indian police and troops across the Kashmir Valley.

Indian police also arrested several people including an activist of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Muhammad Yousuf Sofi, from Hajin in Bandipora and other areas of the occupied territory.

The residents of Barzulla, Rambagh and Rangreth in Srinagar and Ompora area of Budgam said that the forces’ personnel barged into the residential houses, beat up the inmates and broke windowpanes of dozens of houses. The people of Dalgate in Srinagar said that Indian paramilitary troops thrashed pedestrians.
