JI rejects distorted facts by Geo News about Professor Khurshid Ahmed

LAHORE: The spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Ameerul Azeem, on Thursday condemned distortion of facts regarding JI central leader Professor Khurshid Ahmed in a Geo News’ programme, ‘Aaj Sham Shah Zeb Khanzada Ke Sath’. He said it was an attempt to divert public attention from the actual characters of leaked Panama Papers.

The spokesperson clarified, “Professor Khurshid Ahmed is an internationally renowned expert of Islamic Banking, Islamic Economics, educator and researchers. Ahmed provides his consultation services voluntarily to ‘Aqida Islamic Bank’ and various other Islamic financial institutions and banks. Following his significant services, three international universities award him honorary doctorate (Ph.D.) degree while Ahmed also receives prestigious Shah Faisal Award. Professor Khurshid Ahmed dedicated award money of Shah Faisal Award to Islamic research and other Islamic activities.”

Ameerul Azeem added, “Professor Khurshid has neither possessed a single share in Aqida Islamic Bank nor received any financial benefits including salary, award and travel expenditures.”

The spokesperson clarified that the baseless media report aired in a programme by Geo News was an attempt to sabotage ongoing nation-wide campaign of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Corruption Free Pakistan movement. He added that the fake media report wanted to divert public attention from different investors and politicians who were exposed guilty in corruption and money laundering cases through leaked Panama Papers.
