KARACHI: A local Court on Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda, who was detained by police overnight for causing inconvenience to Karachi residents by organising an unannounced demonstration.Malir’s Judicial Magistrate Court approved Faisal Vawda’s bail plea against bond of Rs. 30,000.
The PTI leader was brought to the court from Airport police station today after being detained by the police. Vawda caused much ruckus by staging a demonstration against corruption at a Karachi thoroughfare on Wednesday. Thousands of citizens were stuck in traffic while trying to return home from work due to snarl-up at main Shahrah-e-Faisal near the Star Gate, caused by the civil society protest.
The situation forced authorities to take action, after which Faisal Vawda was detained and taken to Airport police station.
We have registered a case against PTI leader Faisal Vawda, Senior Superintendent of Police Rao Anwar said, declining to give further details.
In a surprise move, Vawda’s party also distanced itself from him, with the central information secretary, Naeem ul Haq, calling for ‘stern action’ against the PTI leader.
Haq also apologised to the Karachi people for the ‘irresponsible act’ of his party affiliate.
