ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has offered India to sign bilateral agreement not to test nuclear weapons.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson agreement offer to India is in greater regional interest, adding that both countries will be bound not to test nuclear weapons in case of finalization of bilateral agreement.
In a statement released by Foreign Office, Pakistan had offered India to sign on Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) immediately after nuclear blasts; hence India had not responded positively over Pakistan’s offer. Both countries are not bound to test nuclear weapons unilaterally, but in case of bilateral agreement, both countries will be bound not to test nuclear weapons.
The spokesperson further stated that both countries can take joint measures of trust building. Pakistani proposition aimed to promote patience and responsibility policy in South Asia. If bilateral agreement finalizes then both countries can give positive impression to Nuclear Supplier Group followed by becoming the reason of a decrease in weapons war in South Asia.
He said a bilateral arrangement on non-testing will also send a positive signal to the Nuclear Supplier Group countries.
