Flash flood leaves five dead, nine rescued in Balochistan

QUETTA: Flash flood left five people dead, while nine others rescued in Harnai district of Quetta.

Harnai assistant commissioner said that the rescue operation had been completed and all the nine bodied recovered.

Downpour triggered flash flooding in storm water streams in Balochistan.

Five people lost their lives in rain related incidents in Harnai after the district received heavy pours for several hours which caused flash flood in storm water streams, officials said, adding five vehicles were swept away in flash floods in Harnai.

The rescue teams, however, rescued the people boarding the vehicles.

Seasonal Nari River had received high flash flood as 66,000 cusec water was passing through Sibi Head Works and 70,000 cusec water through Mithri Head Works. “Flash floods have posed threat to Haji Shehr, Bala Nari and Bhag areas,” the district management officials said.

“The flash floods have washed away Sibi-Talli road in Sultan Kot area disconnecting Talli from Sibi,”they informed.

Dozens of mud houses were collapsed after Nasirabad division received heavy pours for five continuous hours triggering flash floods. The district management said mud houses were reported to be damaged in rain in areas including Bari Shakh, Ropa Shakh, Manjho Shori, Umrani Shakh, Goth Shakar Khan Jatak, Goth Dad Muhammad Mengal, Goth Muhammad Jan Zehri and Goth Ghulam Muhammad Zehri.

Most of the villages were disconnected with rest of the country. People were forced to sit under open sky. Home Minister, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to immediately launch rescue and relief activities in the affected areas.
