6.3-magnitude earthquake hits off PNG: USGS

SYDNEY: A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea in the Admiralty Island area early Tuesday, US geologists said.

The offshore quake hit at 5.38 am (1938 GMT Monday) and occurred 128 kilometres (80 miles) south-east of Lorengau, Papua New Guinea, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
