DUBAI: Co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former President Asif will chair a high level meeting here on Friday regarding extending Rangers powers in Sindh.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is scheduled to leave for Dubai on Friday to participate in the consultation process which will be attended by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other senior leaders.
According to sources, Asif Zardari is en route. The former president was supposed to arrive back in the UAE earlier this week but delayed his departure by two days.
Due to the delay in extending the paramilitary force’s special powers in Sindh, the Rangers have stopped various activities to curb law and order including snap checking of vehicles and detaining suspected individuals.
The paramilitary force has played a major role in curbing crime in the southern metropolis of Karachi.
The Sindh government is delaying the extension because of tension between the Sindh Home Minister and the Rangers about arrest of some criminals in Larkana.
