KARACHI: Glowing tributes were paid to eminent social worker, Abdul Sattar Edhi at a condolence meeting held at the Karachi University Campus on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi, said that Abdul Sattar Edhi was a ray of hope for the humanity and that the legendary social worker had devoted his entire life to serve the cause of humanity. He further stated that the welfare and social services of Abdul Sattar Edhi will always be remembered.
Edhi was only recognized in Pakistan for his services but also the world over and that his demise is a great loss for the humanity.
Iraqi said that Sattar Edhi no longer with us today but his message of love and serve humanity is with us and will remain forever.
`Our youth must carry forward his great legacy of serving the humanity’, he added.
A prominent intellectual and the Vice-Chancellor of Ziauddin University, Prof. Dr. Peerzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, said that he was one of the most prominent and distinguished social figures of the country.
He said that health is a major need of our society and that there is a need to enhance spending in this very sector.
Peerzada pointed out that Edhi started his welfare services in a very difficult time and we all must need to carry forward his mission in order to eradicate all the societal issues of our country.
He also stressed that the people should give donations to the welfare organizations.
Director KIBGE KU Prof. Dr. Abid Azhar said that Edhi served not only living people but also the dead ones. He served without any discrimination of religion, cast or creed and that his services may never be forgotten.
KUTS President Dr. Shakeel Farooqui said every human being must one day leave the world but we are lucky enough to witness the heroics of a great human being named Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Our major issue is that we see problems in others not in ourselves. We must feel proud of Edhi and his name is itself an honor.
Coordinator Alamgir Trust Nisar Ahmed said that all the welfare organizations of Karachi are following the footsteps of Edhi.
He said the Edhi foundation always rendered great services for serving the humanity without any discrimination. We must play a positive role in carrying forward this great social and welfare cause.
Dr. Shahnaz Ghazi maintained that many perform welfare services for the sake of publicity but Edhi Sahab was a supreme example of rendering social service without any discrimination.
