SMS, internet outdate Eid greeting cards

RAWALPINDI, June 29 (INP): The tradition of posting Eid cards, letters to family members and friends on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr has now become a history with the upward trend of conference calls, video chats through internet access on smartphones and electronic media.

Few years ago people enthusiastically used to make special arrangements to send Eid cards through mail and this process started before mid of Ramadan. Special stalls of Eid cards were setup at different markets where people from all shade of lives pick up cards of their choices but now people opted to convey their greetings though easy access to social websites in cyberspace.

According to Pakistan Post Office at least 4,000 greeting cards were used to post for inter-city destinations from General Post Office (GPO) Rawalpindi. The department used to earn a profit of around Rs. 4, 00,000 during the month of Ramadan but now the department is not making any profit as sending eid greeting cards are no more in fashion people opted for SMS and internet to “deliver” their greetings within seconds on Eid holidays.
