Karachi billboards removing: SC dismisses review plea

Chief Justice of Pakistan has said several people die in Monsoon season due to billboards crashing, we can’t give license to kill people.

Supreme courts keeping its decision of removing billboards from public places and said if we want to remove hundreds of signboard or billboards to save a life so we will.

Three member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali conducted the hearing on a petition seeking review of court’s decision of removing billboards from Karachi.

The applicant’s advocate said pedestrian bridges were made from peoples’ funds and court ordered to remove billboards from public places and the bridges are not a public place.

Justice Amir Hani said in his remarks that when before the court’s order there were about 5,000 billboards in Karachi and after the order they had increased up to 8,000.

The advocate argued that the tender of pedestrian bridges were allotted under Sindh Public Prosecutor partnership act because Sindh government hasn’t had funds at the time.

The court bench said, “We have reservations on the act and safeguard rights of people is our supreme priority.”

Justice Hani said in case someone lost his life due to billboard then who will be named in First Information Report (FIR)?

The advertisement companies should give in written that they will be responsible for loss of life or property of the people, he added.
