MUZAFFARABAD: The first ever climate change center has been established in Azad Jammu and Kashmir for monitoring the climate changes in the area.
Addressing a workshop held in Muzaffarabad on Thursday, the Additional Chief Secretary Development Dr. Tashfain Khan said the center will help for future planning to overcome the challenges of climate change which is posing a serious threat to humanity across the globe.
He said by the monitoring system of climate change center will help in timely better future planning to meet the challenges of floods, storms and tremors.
He said that natural calamities cause the loss of millions of rupees every year due to destruction of the infrastructure in AJK.
The participants of the workshop said the monitoring system would also help in minimizing the human and property losses caused due to natural calamities including flash floods in the area.
They urged for adopting climate friendly policies to overcome the future challenge of globin warming.
The speakers urged upon the government and the concerned departments including environmental department to take solid steps and evolve strategy to protect the land from soil erosion, air pollution and take environment friendly steps like plantation and other measures in this regard.
The workshop was attended by high ranking officials of the AJK Government, Director climatic change center Rashid Hussain and representative of Asian Development Bank Dr. Qamar Zaman Choudhry and others.
