ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will preside over the National Economic Council and federal cabinet meetings through video link today.

This will be first time when the federal cabinet and NEC proceedings will be recorded on tape. The NEC meeting will take place in Islamabad and it will be linked with the Pakistan High Commission in London at around 5:15 today.

Afterwards, the prime minister will chair a special cabinet meeting before the budget at around 6:30. It is likely that the Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, who is in London, will also join the prime minister for the two meetings.

A statement from the PM’s office said the prime minister was continuing to oversee the state affairs in the days before his surgery. It is however, natural and understandable that the PM will be off from any activities when he is actually operated on by the doctors, the statement added.
