PARIS: Torrential rain brought play at the French Open to a halt Saturday with defending women’s champion Serena Williams locked in a second set dogfight against France’s Kristina Mladenovic.
After a spell of thunder and lightning over Paris, play was suspended when the downpours hit at 1455 local time (1255GMT).
Williams had taken the first set against Mladenovic 6-4 with the scores level at 6-6 and a tiebreak about to start in the second when play was suspended.
