JI announces to launch series of protest demonstrations in city over water crisis

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chapter has announced to launch series of protest demonstrations over water crisis at around 50 locations of city.

This was announced by Ameer JI Karachi Chapter Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman in a press conference held at Idara-e-Noor Haq here on Thursday.

JI Naib Ameer Karachi Muslim Pervez, General Secretary JI Karachi Abdul Wahab, Saleem Mazhar, Information Secretary Zahid Askari and others were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the press conference, Hafiz Naeem informed the media that the party leadership has planned first of its protest demonstration at Jauhar Morr on Thursday, while other protests would be held at Dawood Chowrangi, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Korangi and around 50 other locations.

Speaking at the occasion, Hafiz Naeem demanded immediate implementation of K-4 project, scrutinization of political recruitments in government departments and availability of uninterrupted power and water supply during Ramadan.

Hafiz Naeem said that the former City Nazim Niamatullah Khan was made the feasibility of K-4 project in his tenure and according to that feasibility the project should be completed in the year2012. However; the K-4project is not yet implemented in the year2015.

“A large number of people deprived of water supply due to line-losses, leakages and tanker mafia; adding that PPP and MQM are responsible for the said prevailing crises as they do not make any arrangements in order to ensure overcome the water crises”, he added.

Hafiz Naeem further said that 1250million gallon per day was the requirement of the people of Karachi while only 680million gallon per day water is being supplied to the Karachiites.

He questioned: why the previous government and its allies not able to implement K-4 water project in the stipulated time.He alleged that the political recruitment is being conducted in Water Board and other government departments adding that the PPP and MQM are equally responsible for ruining the infrastructure of the city.

On the occasion, Hafiz Naeem further demanded installation of desalination and RO plants in city for overcoming the water shortage.

Later, JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem appealed the people to come forward and stand with JI leadership in order to resolve the issues of people.
