LAHORE: To provide relief to the masses during the holy month of Ramazan, the government has decided not to cut power supply to domestic consumers during Sehri, Iftar and Taraweeh timings.

According to the Ministry of Water & Power sources, a plan has been finalized under which industries will face ten hours of power cuts. The outage has been scheduled for an hour before Iftar and one hour after Sehri to ensure uninterrupted supply to the domestic consumers.

Directives have been issued to the distribution companies (DISCOs) to ensure availability of special teams to deal with any technical fault at the earliest.

It may be mentioned here that solving Pakistan’s energy crisis was a key campaign pledge for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the run-up to the 2013 general election, and the persisting shortage is heaping fresh pressure on his government.

However, the government officials have claimed that load shedding will be eliminated till 2018.
