Mullah Akhtar Mansour killed in US air strike

WASHINGTON: The US officials confirmed the killing of senior Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in US drone strike near Pakistan Afghanistan border, claimed US news agency.

The agency quoting its sources claimed that Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour has been killed in the US strike that carried out near Pak-Afghan border on Saturday.

The airstrike, which was authorised by President Barack Obama, also killed a second adult male combatant as the two traveled in a vehicle southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal, but no civilians were killed.

“Mansour was the target and was likely killed,” the official said, speaking under the condition of anonymity.

On the other hand Pentagon spokesperson said that Mullah Akhtar Mansour was targeted in the air-raid but it is not confirmed whether Taliban leader escaped of killed in the US strike.

Meanwhile, The Afghan Taliban has denied reports that its leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a US air strike in Pakistan.
