BAJAUR: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq has said that to resolve the issue of the holdback in constitution of commission to probe the Panama Papers the government and opposition should hold talks for formulating joint Terms of Reference (ToRs) and to prove their sincerity in the matter.
Addressing a public meeting at Kha’r Stadium in Bajaur on Saturday, Sirajul Haq said that if the ruling party or the opposition tried to escape from the enquiry commission, it would be presumed that there was something wrong.
He said that the country could not develop and progress unless corruption was not controlled. He pointed out that Pakistan had to pay loan to the tune of 70 billion dollars while 375 billion dollars owned by the Pakistanis were lying in foreign banks. By bringing back this entire amount, the country could be put on the road to progress and prosperity. He said that ruthless accountability of the plunderers was the need of the hour.
Sirajul Haq said the JI had tried to unite the opposition on the issue of corruption. However, he said that after the proof of the corruption in the ruling party and the opposition, the JI would to go the masses.
He noted that the British Prime Minister did not have a house of his own while the Pakistani rulers had palaces and other properties in Britain.
Referring to the Tribal Areas’ problems, the JI chief said that next to the FCR, corruption was the biggest enemy of the tribal people. He said that the past and present governments had received billions of dollars from different countries in the name of tribal areas but the entire amount had been misappropriated. There was neither any engineering university nor a medical college, nor any factory in the tribal areas.
Sirajul Haq said that none of the JI leaders had been named in the Panama leaks or accused of corruption. He said that on coming to power, the JI would provide free treatment for five major diseases, grant unemployment allowance to the youth, old age allowance to the senior citizens.
He stressed upon the rules to account for the money that had been received from abroad in the name of Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber and Waziristan agencies. He said that the new generation of the tribal people did not accept the colonial era legacy, the FCR.
