All set to celebrate National Book Day on April 22

ISLAMABAD: Three-day celebrations of National Book Day would start here from April 22 with a number of activities to highlight the importance of book reading culture in development and progress of nations.  

The main celebrations would be held at Pak China Friendship Centre by National Book Foundation (NBF) on the special directives of Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui.

National Book Foundation (NBF) has completed preparations for organising various book promotional activities during the three-day celebrations of National Book Day.

The book festival would be full of festivity and jubilation and provide opportunities to the book lovers to share various activities with scholars, intelligentsia, writers, poets, book lovers, NBF Ambassadors, publishers, readers, artists, students and general public under one roof.

Different segments and sessions of literary and cultural aspects would be the hallmark of the book festival.

More than 250 bookstalls of various books-sellers and publishers will be set up, offering variety of books at 55 percent discounted rate. Different universities and educational institutions would also set up their stalls.

The conferences of Book-Ambassadors and publishers will be held where they will exchange views and make strategies for solving their common problems of book industry.

In the “Vice Chancellors’ Conference”, the think-tank of education sector will talk about ways of promoting book reading culture among people.

Renowned writers and intellectuals of Urdu and English Languages will take part in the segment of “Book reading.”

The programmes in reference of Chinese, Turkish and other International Languages including Pakistani Languages and literature will be held in “Kitab Mela”.

The launching ceremonies of new books, workshops on Textbooks Development, Mobile library, Peace and Human Rights Conference, the Seminar on Modern Poems, Fictions and Ghazals, the segment on Pakistani writers living abroad as well as memorable programme over legend writer, Intizar Hussain (Late) will be the parts of the event.

The government declared April 22 as National Book Day and first book festival was held on April 2010.
