KARACHI: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has taken notice of turning Markaz Tehzeebo Saqafat-e-Islami near Ayesha Manzil area of Karachi into a commercial entity by naming it, “Markaz-i-Ilm-o-Saqafat Hall” and its accommodation as cinema and wedding hall.

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman had send a letter to the CJP, asking him to take notice of the issue. In response, the CJP converted the letter into a petition and took notice of it.

The CJP has ordered to send notices to the Administrator Karachi and Advocate General Sindh, asking them to submit their viewpoint before the court on April 20, 2016.

The apex court also ordered Engr. Naeem to submit their viewpoint in detail.

Engr. Naeem in his letter had stated that the kmc authorities had illegally converted the building of such a prestige and holiness into a cinema.

He adopted the viewpoint that such conversion had not only hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims but also contrary to local laws.

It is pertinent to mention here that the kalema bearing building with dooms upon it was converted into cinema and marriage hall.
