Protest for Mumtaz Qadri turns violent in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Thousands of protestors demonstrating anger over execution of Mumtaz Qadri heading towards Islamabad’s Parliament House after breaching Red Zone turned violent after clashes and tear gas shelling by the police here on Sunday night.

Around 10,000 people were protesting against execution of Mumtaz Qadri have forcefully entered into Islamabad Red Zone and heading towards Parliament House. However, the protest turned violent after brutal shelling and baton charge of security personnel.

Outrageous protestors torched various public assets including Metro Bus stations on various spots, reports said.

Earlier, the protestors gathered in Liaquat Bagh of Rawalpindi to mark Chehlum of Mumtaz Qadri who was hanged to death for shooting down former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer over passing controversial remarks against blasphemy law.

Pakistan’s federal government has called up military troops to the federal government in order to void any untoward action citing the current scenario, said a latest statement of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Moreover, Islamabad administration held dialogues with protestors to sort out solution, local new channel reported. However, it was not confirmed whether the protestors were permitted to hold a peaceful demonstration or not.
