MIAMI: World number one Serena Williams, seeking her fourth consecutive Miami Open title, advanced to the fourth round on Saturday by defeating Kazakhstan’s 97th-ranked Zarina Diyas 7-5, 6-3.
The 34-year-old American, a 21-time Grand Slam singles champion, next faces Russian 15th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Williams, in quest of her ninth Miami crown overall, is 8-2 all-time against Kuznetsova, winning their most recent meeting in last year’s Miami fourth round.
