Paddy to be cultivated on 4.44m acre in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture department spokesperson has said that rice crop would be cultivated on 4.44 million acre of land in Punjab for the season 2015-16.  He said that the government set a target of 3.5 million tones rice production for the new year.

He suggested the farmer to cultivate approved rice species to gain more crop. He suggested to cultivate  Super Basmati, Basmati-370, Basmati-385, Basmati-Pak, Basmati-2000, Basmati-515, PS-2, PS-2, PK-386 and Basmati-198 from June 1st to 20th. While the best time for cultivation of Shaheen Basmati was June 15th to 30th.

The spokesperson asked farmers to conclude the cultivation of following types of rice by May 20th to June 15th: Ari-6, KS-282, KSK-133, KSK -438, Nayab-2013, and Nayab Ari–9.
