Axact fake degree scandal under investigation: Chaudhry Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar on Wednesday said that Axact fake degree case has been handed over to the premium investigation agency as nobody could be declared culprit till accusation were proved.

Besides announcing major developments in two high-profile cases in Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar clarified that no arrests were made while few persons were interviewed in Axact scandal but the case needed time to be resolved. The interior minister announced to hold independent and transparent investigation over the scandal.

Axact scandal is a sensitive issue that is affecting reputation of Pakistan, Nisar said. He admitted to form seven-member committee comprising cyber crime and corporate wings to probe the scandal after reading New York Times report as interior minister of Pakistan.  He rejected editorial of New York Times levelling allegations on the federal government.

AXACT-COMPANY

Chaudhry Nisar refuted media reports regarding arrests and including names in Exit Control List (ECL) over the matter. He asked media organisations not to create hype as it is the matter of Pakistani honour and New York Times should also wait till formal result of investigation.

During the press address, Nisar said that SECP and FBR was given input by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to provide evidences of tax payments by Axact. He said that 42 servers were seized in Rawalpindi and Karachi offices while forensic report needed a month to be released. He added that notices were sent to Axact officials in the case while each director would be interrogated separately.

Nisar said that that the government could get assistance of foreign experts if found technical difficulties during investigation. He said that Axact scandal has no connections with BOL Television and he respects all prominent media personalities. He confirmed to reject visa application of Declan Walsh due to irregularities.

Safora-incident-arrest

While announcing developments over Safora incident occurred in Karachi, Chaudhry Nisar said that security and intelligence agencies made few arrests after four days after the incident. He praised prominent efforts of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh over arresting mastermind of the attack and some most wanted terrorism.

Nisar answered a question that positive development was also made in Imran Farooq murder case terming it as ‘not just the case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) but murder of a Pakistani citizen.’ Apparently pointing over expected extradition treaty with British government, the interior minister said that he wanted to ensure same law to be adopted in Pakistan and any other country.
