At least three children have lost their lives and several others wounded in a bomb explosion in the capital of western Farah province of Afghanistan.

A police spokesperson said the children were collecting hay in Kurji area of Farah city when the planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off on them on Monday afternoon.

Iqbal Bahid added that three kids died on the spot while three others sustained injuries.

According to the police spokesperson the bomb was planted by Taliban militants but the group has not yet commented on the report.

Farah is among the relatively volatile provinces in western Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.
