LAHORE: Deputy Chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Rashid Naseem has said that the local bodies (LB) institutions have become irrelevant as powers had not been transferred to the elected representatives despite passage of several months of the LB polls.
Addressing the JI central workshop at Mansoora on Tuesday, Rashid Naseem said that the government had held LB elections under the Supreme Court (SC) directives but the formation of the local governments still remained a far cry as the provincial governments were not ready to share powers with the elected representatives. He urged the Apex Court to take notice of the matter.
He said that the corrupt rulers had plundered trillions of the public money during the last 68 years and still wanted status quo. If this money had been spent on public welfare, the plight of the general public would have been ameliorated, he added.
The JI Leader said that the country needed an honest and God-fearing leadership. He said the JI would launch a drive against corruption in upcoming month.
