Rangers apprehend 3 suspects including former aide of Baitullah Mehsud

KARACHI: Rangers have intensified action against terrorists in Karachi as the law enforcement agency apprehended three suspects including an operative of a banned organization late Wednesday night.

Arrested terrorist named Meherban is believed to be a close aide of the slain Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Baitullah Mehsud. In a shocking statement during interrogation, Meherban revealed of his meetings with Baitullah Mehsud.

The arrested suspect also confessed of collecting funds and providing ammunition to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban outfit.

The notorious terrorist was arrested from Kotari area during joint action by Rangers and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The apprehended terrorist stated that he first came in contact with the TTP leader back in 2006 and then met him several times after that.

The apprehended suspect stated that he collected for Mehsud by conducting crimes of varying degrees in Karachi.

The terrorist further revealed that he had played an influential part in strengthening the roots of Tehreek-e-Taliban in Karachi.

Meherban stated that during this time he was in contact with several Taliban commanders and provided them with ammunition. The suspect stated that he was hiding in Kotari after Karachi operation was initiated.

Sources say that further arrests are expected following the interrogation.

 Meanwhile Intelligence officials also conducted action near Malir Kala Board area and arrested an official of a political party. Souruces say that the suspect has been shifted to an undisclosed location. The suspect is being interrogated for serious crimes in the city.
