Nepal second earthquake: death toll rises up to 44

At least 44 persons were killed and more than 1000 injured following by a new earthquake and powerful powerful aftershocks in already traumatised Nepal on Tuesday after suffering disasters of country’s deadliest quake in more than 80 years.

Many buildings already damaged in the first earthquake were tumbled down in Nepal that significantly increased rate of casualties already living under shelters provided by relief operators.

The tremors of 7.4 magnitude on Richter Scale brought fresh terror to a traumatised Nepal on Tuesday while officials in Nepal said at least 36 people were killed, whereas, 17 people also died across the border in northern India, most in the state of Bihar.

The quake forced people in the capital and beyond to rush out on to the streets after witnessing disasters of 7.8 magnitude quake killed more than 8,000 people.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicentre was 68km west of the town of Namche Bazar, close to Mount Everest and that shockwaves were felt as far away as the Indian capital New Delhi.

USGS had said it had a depth of 19km and earlier had said it was of a magnitude of 7.1 but that was revised aftward with an increase in accordance to its intensity.

Earthquake also jolted India neighbouring crisis-hit Nepal and far away various parts of Pakistan including Islamabad, Lahore Swat, Mingora and its suburb areas here on Tuesday.

Strong tremors shaken primarily three countries including Nepal, India and Pakistan. However, highest intensity of the quake was recorded in Nepal up to 7.4 magnitude on Richter Scale in Nepal.

Tremors felt in Pakistani areas including federal capital Islamabad, Mingora, Swat, Lahore and its suburb areas while Met department’s report regarding magnitude of the quake is due to release. No casualties were reported so far.

However, Pakistan Met department sources said that epicentre of the earthquake was border areas of Afghanistan and Tajikistan while its depth was 10 kilometre away in land.

India media reported that 7.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in New Delhi. The report said that epicentre of the quake was Nepal and its depth was 10 kilometres away in land.
