KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr. Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the authorities Election Commission of Pakistan to categorically announce the deployment of army or Rangers personnel in and outside the polling booths on the Local Government (LG) election day.

Addressing a public gathering, the JI leader said that the elections would be of no use, if the Rangers or army personnel were not deployed properly. He further said that it would be a selection not election, if transparency is not ensured through deployment of armed personnel at the polling booths.

He expressed his distrust in police department, citing the bloody polling day at Khairpur district in the first phase of polling.

Engr. Naeem pleaded of masses for a massive turnout so as to foil the conspiracies of rigging and to thwart the attempt of pre-poll rigging as the voter lists were already flawed.

He was of the view that the defeat of those enjoying rule in the city for decades on the basis of terror, harass and bullets is certain. He asked people defeat terror and come out to vote on the election day to commence an era of peace, prosperity, transparency and progress.

The JI Karachi chief said that the assassination of the two military police personnel is an attempt to sabotage local government polls in the city. Durable peace in the metropolis is impossible, until and unless the terrorists, target killers, extortionists and agents of Indian spy agency are not brought to full justice.

He said that Karachiites with their courage and unity would foil the conspiracies against the city of lights and would initiate a new era of development in the city on December 5, 2015.

He further said that those claiming their rights on Karachi have done nothing for the city during last three decades, except transforming the city of lights into the city of darkness. They only bestowed the city with the culture of extortion, corruption, target killing and gunny bags packed corpses.

He added that the criminal silence of both the ECP and the government and their bias are quite unacceptable.

Engr. Naeem said that the time of status-quo parties have come to an end and vowed that the JI would change the fate of Karachi and would serve the citizens with honesty.
