MIANWALI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of corruption in metro bus projects, which according to him could eradicate poverty from the country if had been spent on farmers.
‘Nawaz Sharif has spent Rs150 billion on metro projects instead of helping out poor farmers,’ Imran said on Monday, while addressing his party workers in Mianwali, where the PTI chief is running an election campaign ahead of the second phase of local government (LG) elections.
The PTI chief said that no businessman should be allowed to enter politics, saying they use politics to aid their own businesses. ‘Nawaz comes in power to expand his business.’
Further, Imran said 70 per cent of Pakistan consists of villages where farmers work the whole day but the government only aids a small section of farmers instead of supporting poor farmers.
The PTI leader said that the ruling party had imposed 50 per cent general sales tax (GST) on diesel which resulted in the upsurge of prices, causing severe difficulties for poor farmers.
He also said the junoon he was seeing in Mianwali now was far greater than in 2013 when PTI had swept the district.
