WASHINGTON: Pakistan has on Saturday said that it was India who introduced nuclear weapons in South Asian region and not Pakistan.

In a statement in Washington, Pakistan embassy in a rejoinder has rejected assertions made in an editorial by the New York Times, which tried to portray Pakistan as a country irresponsibly building its nuclear arsenal.

It also referred to recent public reports which confirmed that India continued to grow its nuclear program by testing missiles with longer ranges.

The statement recalled the recent address by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the United Nations General Assembly in which he made fresh proposals for peace in South Asia which sadly, India has refused to engage in.
