KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Secretary General Abdul Wahab has demanded of the provincial Election Commission to declare all polling stations across Karachi as sensitive during the upcoming local government (LG) elections.

In a letter to the Election Commissioner Sindh Tanvir Zaki, the JI leader demanded of the concerned authorities to deploy Rangers personnel in and outside all polling booths.

The letter also demanded to empower Rangers with additional powers of a magistrate on the day of polling, so as to bring culprits and miscreants to full justice on the spot and to ensure a free, fair and transparent polling process on December 5, 2015.

Abdul Wahab was of the view that the transportation of polling material as well as the process of ballet counting should also be carried out under the supervision of Rangers personnel.

Citing the bloody incidents during LG polls, the JI leader said that the police force in Sindh failed to ensure law and order during the recent and earlier elections in the province.

He went to write that ensuring free and fair elections is the prime responsibility of the election commission and it is also the duty of the commission to provide all political parties with a fearless environment and level playing field.

The JI leader hoped that the election commission would fulfill its duties and would avoid repetition of mistakes, committed in past.
