SRINAGAR: The authorities have imposed a curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar and other major towns to prevent Million March in the city, today (Saturday) on the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The call march has been given by the forum patronised by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, and supported by other pro-freedom leaders and organisations to protest against the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s visit to the Kashmir Valley.
The authorities have deployed heavy security in shape of Indian troops and police personnel to stop people from reaching Srinagar’s TRC ground while all roads leading to the venue have been sealed.
Despite restrictions, people are staging anti-India demonstrations in Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Islamabad, Pulwama, Kulgam, Bandipore, Pampore and other areas and trying to march towards Srinagar.
However, Indian troops and police personnel are stopping the people from heading to Srinagar. Intense clashes between Indian forces’ personnel and the protesters are going on in Singhpora Pattan area of Baramulla and in Bandipora town.
The authorities continue to detain all Hurriyet leaders in their houses or police stations to prevent them from leading the march. Member of the so-called Kashmir Assembly, Engineer Abdur Rasheed has been placed under house arrest in Srinagar to prevent him from taking out a rally against Modi.
Srinagar has been turned into a fortress on the visit of Narendra Modi while mobile and internet services have been suspended in the city.
Close Circuit Cameras have been installed at many places to keep an eye on the movement of the people.
The police and paramilitary personnel have set up check points at many places in the city and along Srinagar-Jammu Highway. All the vehicles passing through these check points are being thoroughly searched.
