ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafqat Mehmud will contest against Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq for the National Assembly speaker election on Nov 9 as both the respective parties have nominated their candidates on Thursday.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and other winners of the by-elections will take the oath on Nov 6 and the schedule of the election for Speaker NA slot will also be announced on the same day. It is expected that the Speaker’s election will be held on Nov 9.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq became the Speaker of the National Assembly after beating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in General Election 2013 from NA-122 in Lahore.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and other Opposition parties, other than PTI, have hinted at supporting Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the slot.

Meanwhile, PTI organizer Shah Mehmood Qureshi while talking to the media informed that Shafqart Mehmud has been nominated as party candidate for the NA speaker slot.

He said they will request Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to also vote for the opposition candidate. He said that PTI has acquired evidence of transfer of votes in NA-122 by-election, claiming that 25 thousand new voters were added after the 2013 general election while 4 thousand votes were transferred out of the constituency.
