Google’s Chrome operating system is going to be retired and replaced with Android.
Chrome OS is mostly used on laptop computers , where it has drawn praise for its ability to keep its user safe from hack attacks. However, Google fans could soon be made to use a version of Android, which is prone to cyber attacks.
According to the Wall Street Journal , Google is planning to fold its Chrome operating system for personal computers into its Android mobile operating system.
‘Mobile as a computing paradigm is eventually going to blend with what we think of as desktop today.’ Google boss Sundar Pichai said last week.
Chrome is a relatively unpopular operating system, powering just 3% of computers in the world, whilst Android is a globe-straddling behemoth used by more than one billion phones and other gizmos.
Tech bible The Register described Google’s rumoured move as a big mistake and said security experts were horrified about the decision to cull Chrome, which has a reputation for being super secure.
‘Chrome OS is the most secure operating system you can buy,’ one tech guru said.
‘It’s lauded by experts everywhere for its design.’
