ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday announced different punishments in local bodies elections of Punjab and Sindh for violation of code of conducts. Strict punishment would be given to the culprits in Sindh, while they would be dealt with leniency in Punjab.
According to ECP statement, use of megaphone, gramophone or loudspeaker could hand three months jail and three thousand fine in Punjab, while for the same reason punishment of three months jail and Rs0.1 million fine would be given in Sindh.
ECP said Rs0.5m fine would be charged on asking for vote near polling stations in Sindh, while in Punjab only Rs2000 would be charged for the same act.
‘Rs2000 will be charged for displacing ballot boxes in Punjab, while Rs0.1m will be charged in Sindh for the same violation,’ said ECP.
It said installation of election symbols, banners or flags in 100 metres limit of polling station was a serious crime as was taking assistance of any government officer to get success in polls.
